Active and passive information

Posts, comments, profile details, and photos form your active footprint. Device identifiers, approximate location, browsing activity, and app analytics can form a passive footprint. Deleting a post does not guarantee every copy disappears.

Reduce unnecessary exposure

Birthdays, routines, workplaces, pet names, and travel plans can help someone guess passwords or impersonate you.

  • Make personal profiles private where practical
  • Remove unused accounts and connected apps
  • Avoid posting travel details in real time
